Sea Rangers receive innovation grant

The Sea Ranger Service received a major innovation grant last night from the Dutch Postcode Lottery during a gala night at the Royal Theater Carré. The grant of 500,000 euro helps the organization in scaling up its offshore work for marine conservation and training young people, simultaneously offering them maritime sector job opportunities.

Margriet Schreuders, Head of Charities at the Postcode Loterij: “The beauty of the Sea Ranger Service model is that it cuts both ways. It trains young people to become ‘park rangers at sea’ to help protect nature and, among other things, seeks out its staff among young people in port communities to reducing youth unemployment. We are happy that thanks to our lottery participants we can contribute to scaling up their important work.”

The Sea Ranger Service is very grateful to the Postcode Loterij for its support. Sea Ranger Founder Wietse van der Werf: “Incredible to be able to grow our impact with such a huge financial boost. We can now expand our work area at sea, train more Sea Rangers and export our model abroad. In a number of countries, entrepreneurs are ready to start Sea Ranger Services. Thanks to the Postcode Loterij, this dream is now becoming a reality.”
