Safety is the top priority at the Sea Ranger Service. Embedded in our core values, the team act from a shared responsibility for the safety of each other. Sea Rangers take safety seriously and will never shy away from alerting others to unsafe working habits or situations.
Despite our vessels being too small to being legally required to do so, the Sea Ranger Service has fully implemented Safety Management Systems (SMS) onboard its ships, in accordance with the International Safety Management (ISM) Code. This includes periodic emergency and safety drills, maintenance checks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Safety equipment on board meets industry standards.
For both fieldwork and any offshore activities, the Sea Ranger Service undergoes internal risk assessments, mitigating risk ahead of work and to ensure all staff are included in assessing possible risks.
The external safety company Rood Boven Groen carries out periodic evaluations of the implementation of the SMS system together with the Sea Ranger Service management and the ship’s crew. In addition, mandatory certification audits take place annually by relevant classification societies.
To ensure continued improvements on all aspects concerning safety, the Sea Ranger Service has an internal safety committee, consisting of employees from all organisational levels, which meets every two weeks, discussing safety issues and making recommendations to the Sea Ranger Service management.
This way possible issues or suggestions to improve safety are escalated within the organisation directly. All staff are encouraged to ask questions, raise concerns or make suggestions – ensuring transparency and an open work culture that continually makes the organisation’s work safer.
