‘Being a Sea Ranger changed me’

Roy Wagemaker, better known as ‘chef’ to his crew members, joined the Sea Ranger Service in 2022 and eventually became a deckhand on inland cargo ships. ‘I’m now studying to become a captain. Without the Sea Ranger Service I would never have been able to take these steps.’

Tackling the maritime industry gender gap

To ensure diversity in our crew we actively encourage women to become Sea Rangers. When looking at the maritime industry, research shows that 99% of seafarers globally are male. Through this recruitment strategy we aim to improve diversity within the maritime sector, as Sea Rangers move into new roles in the industry.

Supporting veterans

The Sea Ranger Service offers employment opportunities to ex-service people. We utilise the valuable experience of veterans to train potential candidates during our Sea Ranger Bootcamps, and in other areas of the company.
